Sneak peek!

Excerpt from Moonlight: Book 2 of the Guardians

Abby wandered through the trees, the pale white light of the moon filtering through the branches.  It was just past midnight and the air was crisp, almost cold.  The scent of fallen leaves and moist earth surrounded her.  She probably should have stayed closer to the cabin after Joe's warning about wild animals, but she just couldn’t stay inside on such a night.  Rounding a bend in the path she came upon a small clearing.  She walked out to the center of it and stood gazing up at the moon.  The night was utterly peaceful.  Only a gentle breeze tugged at her hair and ruffled her clothes.  Suddenly she felt a presence behind her, and her adrenaline spiked as a low growl emanated from the shadows.  She started to turn towards the sound.
“You should be running,” a deep guttural voice said to her.  A dark creature separated itself from the shadows, part man part beast.  Its eyes flashed in the moonlight and panic seized her.  She flung herself into the forest, praying that she was headed for the cabin, terrified that he would catch her before she got there.

David had to admit, he loved it when they ran.  He’d been tracking her scent through the forest since she left the cabin.  So innocent.  She smelled like lilacs in the rain.  The female must be a guest of Joe and Sarah.  He often came to their meadow when he was searching for his own peace.  They gave him hope that one day he could find what they had.  He gave her a head start, then took off, loping through the trees at an even pace, catching up to her easily, but he stayed about ten yards behind her.  Just close enough to smell her fear.  When she had almost reached the edge of the trees, he stopped.  He let her go.  After all, he was really only in it for the chase.
Abby ran for all she was worth, blood thundering in her ears.  She burst through the tree line, sprinting for the back porch.  When she reached it, she turned gasping for air and saw…nothing.  Had she imagined it?  Confused and frightened, she opened the cabin door and walked inside locking it behind her.  The fire in the living room still gave off enough of a glow for her to pick her way around the furniture to her room.  She stripped off her sweaty clothes and went into the bright bathroom.  Splashing cool water on her face she tried to steady her breathing.  She looked at her reflection in the mirror.  Her face had gone pale, her eyes wide and full of shock.  No wonder with what had happened.
It had happened right?  She hadn’t just scared the shit out of herself with her over-active imagination had she?  Abby remembered that low guttural voice and how it had frightened her.  But it had also stirred something in her that wasn’t fear, something hot and wanton.  He could have easily caught her.  So why hadn’t he?

David reached the tree line and watched the female stop and look back.  She went into the cabin, and he heard her slide the deadbolt home.  He smiled, if he really wanted in, that wouldn’t stop him.  He saw a light come on in the other side of the house so he edged around until he reached her window.  She came out of the bathroom wearing a white cotton nightgown with thin straps and little blue flowers embroidered around the hem.  An involuntary purr sprang from his throat at the sight of her lush curves under that thin fabric.  She turned to pull back the covers to climb into bed and he saw a tattoo on her left shoulder blade that looked like a wing.  It took a supreme force of will not to crawl in through the window and take her down onto the bed.  She got herself settled under the quilt and switched off the lamp.  Since he could no longer see her, or smell her, he decided to reach his mind out to hers.  He felt her, brushed the edge of her mind, he got a sense of her feelings.  A combination of fear and excitement, even a sliver of arousal, which had him painfully hard, but he could go no further.  He’d never been shut out of a mind so completely.
Could she be the one?  Maybe.  He stumbled away from the cabin in shock.  He needed to think.  He raced through the forest back to Haven, re-taking human form as he reached the spot were he’d stashed his jeans and shirt.  The house was dark.  He navigated his way to his room without turning on any lights.  Suddenly exhausted he stripped back down and flopped onto his bed.  The sheets were already rumpled as he never made them up.  He closed his eyes, replaying the chase in his mind.  Maybe he should have caught her.

Hands were touching her.  Abby writhed and moaned in her sleep, letting the dream carry her away.  Hard muscles pinned her down, and his dark spicy scent filled her nose.  His mouth found hers, invaded her, she sucked lightly on his tongue.  He moaned and ground his hips into her.  He reached down, jerked up her nightie, and stroked her until she whimpered, hips swaying back and forth.  He took his hand away, and she cried out in frustration and bit him on the shoulder.  He gasped and moaned.  Then she felt him, hot and hard between her legs.  She sighed and wrapped her legs around him; then she screamed as he thrust all of his hard length into her.  He covered her mouth with his, silencing her, and thrashed his hips back and forth until they were both wild, she sank her nails into his back and clawed, and it only spurred him on faster.  She was so close to coming; she could feel the pressure building within her.
He grabbed her wrists and pinned them down, raising himself up high above her, and pounded into her harder.  That sent her over the edge, white hot liquid racing through her, bucking and moaning.  She felt him tense above her, felt him come inside her, arching above her in a great wave.  His muscles standing out in corded relief.  He settled against her panting, and she felt him kiss her neck.
If only I could see his face, she thought as she drifted back to sleep.

He woke up still coming.  He grabbed the sheets and covered himself.  He was in the throes of an orgasm so intense he couldn’t stop shaking.  He rolled to his side and curled up, trying to even his breathing and calm down.  He could still smell her, feel her soft skin.  He shuddered.  The dream had been so real, so vivid.  He half expected to roll over and see her in his bed.  His back stung, he got out of bed and staggered across his room to the bathroom like a drunken sailor.  For some reason his knees didn’t seem to be working properly.  He looked at his back in the mirror, and he had red nail marks running down it.  None had broken the skin, but they were plain as day.  What the hell is going on?  He cleaned himself up and went back to the bed.
“Fuck, now I have to change the sheets.”

Paperback Now Available!

I have to say, I really love how easy Amazon makes it to get your work out there.  Now if I could just find a way to get the word out!  Patience is a virtue so they say, and it is something I have to work very hard at every day.  Thanks to everyone who has already downloaded/purchased my book.  I am currently working on a follow up that will be a continuation of the story with the focus on one of the other main characters.  The working title is "Moonlight" we'll see if that sticks.  I'm calling the series The Guardians, after the moniker for the protectors of the Pack.  It is is gorgeous Friday night, I hope you all have a great weekend!
